Shire gets Japan regulatory nod for hereditary angioedema treatment

Shire said regulators in Japan had granted the company manufacturing and marketing authorisation for its treatment of hereditary angioedema attacks.

The rare genetic disease was characterised by recurrent attacks of localized swelling, most commonly affecting are the extremities, skin and gastrointestinal tract.

Less frequently, it can cause life-threatening attacks due to obstruction in the upper airways.

Authorisation was granted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan for the treatment, called Firayzr.
