ZOFINGEN, Switzerland — Thirteen team USA age-group athletes placed in the top-10 in their respective age groups at the ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland, on Sunday. The race covered a 10-kilometer run, 150-kilometer bike and 30-kilometer run. Lundy Neuman of Los Angeles was the sole U.S. medalist, claiming gold in the women’s 65-69 age group with a time of 11 hours, 14 minutes, 9 seconds.
The fastest U.S. woman in the age-group race was Laura Epelbaum (Berwyn, Pa.), who crossed the line in 8:48:01 to take sixth in the women’s 40-44 age group. Nicholas Watson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had the fastest U.S. men’s age-group time, taking seventh for men 40-44 with a time of 7:17:40.
Age-group competitors in the ITU Long Distance Duathlon Age Group World Championships earned spots on Team USA based on their performance in select qualifying events. The U.S. also had two finishers in the elite races. Albert Harrison (Moscow, Idaho) earned a top-six finish in 6:25:52, the fastest overall American on the day. Jennifer Santoyo (Burien, Wash.) took 12th for elite women 8:41:20.
