Report: USA Gymnastics Tumbling Coach Forced to Resign

USA Gymnastics' national tumbling team coach Sergio Galvez was forced to resign from his position “pending an investigation into report filed with the U.S. Center for Safe Sport,” The Orange County Register reports. Galvez was reportedly forced to resign by USA Gymnastics’ board of directors after Safe Sport placed an “interim measure” restriction on Galvez last week due to “allegations of misconduct.” “The USA Gymnastics Board of Directors determined that this action was necessary to maintain a safe environment for the athletes during the U.S. Center for Safe Sport’s investigation, in adherence with USA Gymnastics bylaws,” USA Gymnastics’ trampoline and tumbling director Jacqui Godfrey wrote in an email obtained by the newspaper. Godfrey added that the organization was “committed to acting responsibly on claims of misconduct.” Galvez was reportedly supposed to lead Team USA at the World Trampoline and Tumbling Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia in early November. According to the Register, Galvez was named national tumbling team head coach almost two years ago. The misconduct allegations come on the heels of USA Gymnastics facing numerous scandals, including the horrid sex-abuse scandal of national team physician Larry Nassar.
