Anthony Mantha's goal late gives Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 win over Vegas, and a win streak - Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Red Wings have themselves a winning streak.

They won back-to-back outings for the first time since the first two games of the season, as Anthony Mantha scored on a breakaway with 30.9 seconds left. That gave the Wings a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday.

Mantha collected a pass off the boards from Robby Fabbri and beat Vegas backup goalie Malcolm Subban for the game-winner. Fabbri had two goals on Friday in a 4-2 win over Boston, his first game since he was traded from St. Louis.

Madison Bowey tied the game earlier in the period with his first goal of the season. Andreas Athanasiou had a first period goal for the Wings, who now embark on a three-game West Coast trip.

Jonathan Bernier started back-to-back games for the first time this season and stopped 17 shots.

Max Pacioretty gave Vegas a 2-1 lead at 9:04 of the second period on a shot from the right circle that sliced past Bowey and beat Bernier on the stick side.

Bowey delivers while falling down

An individual play by Bowey allowed the Wings to tie the game midway through the third period. Bowey prevented a Vegas clearing attempt, then skated toward the slot and squeezed off a shot while getting knocked down by William Carrier.

The puck found its way between Vegas goalie Malcolm Subban's left skate and the goalpost.

Bowey's goal was just his second since being traded from Washington to Detroit last season and the third of his career. His other goal for Detroit came on March 14 against Tampa Bay.

Power play clicks again

Athanasiou was shut out for 13 games before scoring his first goal this season against Nashville. He required only three games before notching his second.

His power play goal came with 45 seconds remaining off a feed from the point by Mike Green. Athanasiou rifled a one-timer from the right circle that beat Subban on the far side.

The Wings' third power-play goal in two games answered Jonathan Marchessault's goal at 16:27 of the period. Marchessault scored on a 2-on-1 situation off a perfectly executed pass from Reilly Smith.

Turnovers aplenty early

The Wings were fortunate to be down by just a goal through the first two periods, considering their sloppy play.

They committed 13 giveaways during that span while getting off just nine shots. Vegas was unable to capitalize on all those errors, as it only managed 10 shots on net.

Late in the second period, a Wings turnover during a power play in their own handed the Golden Knights' Cody Eakin the puck just a few feet from the goal. But his shot went wide.
