Inter Manager Conte: "We'll Have To Be Very Careful Against Dortmund, We Have To Play With Personality" - SempreInter

Antonio Conte spoke at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League clash away to Borussia Dortmund and firstly discussed his thoughts on the match itself.

“It is an important match, ourselves and Borussia both have four points in the standings. I think that Barcelona has already secured a place in the next round,” he said.

“We were good at winning at San Siro against Borussia, we know we will meet a strong team tomorrow and one that has proven themselves in the Champions League for many years.

“We will have to be very careful, at the same time it is an important step in a warm, electric environment, we know full well what kind of atmosphere their fans can create and for this reason it will be important to play with personality.

“We come to play our own game. It is an important step of growth and I think we can do it by facing the games as it should be, playing as we have prepared.”

He was then asked about Stefano Sensi and whether he could start the match.

“He has trained with us three times lately, the first time being on the eve of the Bologna match. He is available, he has recovered. We will make evaluations with the staff to understand how it is best to use him. We will make the evaluations for the good of the team and the player.”

He was asked if he will deploy a defensive game plan.

“Our growth comes from our mentality. If we play a defensive game it is because Borussia has been good at putting us there but our intention is to play the same way at home and away. The six away wins in the league testify that.

“We know our strengths and weaknesses, on which we are working to decrease them. Those who expect a totally defensive performance on our part are wrong. It is not what we work for. The strength of our opponents can put us in certain situations.

“We will have to be good in times of suffering, that will happen, to be compact and defend well. In the possession phase we know what to do. We come here to take another step, like in Barcelona.”

“Our idea when we are in possession is to score goals and create chances. We are not a team who can defend and hit teams on the counter as we do not have many quick players. We have trained different situations where we can create opportunities to score goals, our mentality is to hurt our opponent.”

Next he admitted he is hoping the team’s energy levels will not have an impact.

“We are coming to the end of another mini-cycle. I keep my fingers crossed because in the other mini-cycle we suffered two defeats in the last two against Barcelona and Juventus, despite playing two good matches.

“The Champions League is a stimulant and helps players find energy even when their energy tanks are not so full. We will have to be good at playing our game knowing that we have worked so hard to deal with this type of commitment both from a tactical and a physical point of view.”

He also shared his views on the racist abuse former Inter striker Mario Balotelli was subjected to over the weekend.

“There are some morons that must be punished. We cannot tolerate this. We are in 2019, it is absurd that we have to talk about racism.”

In conclusion he was asked about the respective conditions of Danilo D’Ambrosio and Kwadwo Asamoah.

“They didn’t leave, they are not available for tomorrow’s game. Roberto Gagliardini remained at home too.”
