Jakub Vrana scored his 12th goal of the season early in the third period of Friday’s game, but it sure took a while for anyone to notice.

With the Caps down 3-1, Vrana found an open lane from the faceoff dot. His release was fast enough to beat Bolts goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, but because the black puck got stuck in the white back of the netting no one registered that it happened.
As Joe Beninati put it, “and a glove save for Vasilevskiy… or is it in?”

The officials didn’t point. The crowd didn’t react. The goal horn didn’t sound.
“I mean, I don’t know. It’s pretty funny because I was a little confused what was going on,” Vrana said after the game. “I don’t really know what to say. I guess it happens sometimes, but it doesn’t. I don’t really know.
“He’s a pretty good goalie,” Vrana added, giving dap to Andrei Vasilevskiy. “I didn’t know from the beginning how to put the puck through him. Honestly, I was really happy it went in.”
Vrana had a career-high nine shots on goal during the game. With the tally, he passed Kuznetsov for second-most goals on the Caps.
