Marvel - Endgame writer reveals only Black Widow death "regret" - digitalspy.com

The writer of Avengers: Endgame has admitted his one "regret" over killing off Black Widow in the movie.

Scarlett Johansson's character sacrifices herself around two thirds of the way through the Marvel movie in order for Hawkeye to obtain the Soul Stone.

However, co-writer Stephen McFeely has reflected on the moment, suggesting that its placing in the movie diluted its impact.

"She jumps on the grenade," he told Vanity Fair. "I'm really proud of that moment. I don't have any regrets.

"The only regret is that it comes at the end of Act Two. So you can't really roll around in the grief because we've got another hour of movie and we haven't solved the A-plot problem. So that's the downside."

Meanwhile, co-director Anthony Russo has revealed why they changed Black Widow's death scene from one they originally shot.

"We started talking about it in post-production with our editor Jeff Ford," he said. "We started spit-balling: Isn't the best version of this scene Hawkeye versus Black Widow? We have two heroes, neither of whom is gonna let the other die?

"They both know they have a mission that involves one of them sacrificing themselves and these characters had such a rich relationship throughout the MCU. So why don't we just make the conflict between these two characters?"

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download.
