Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy has arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia and is expected to meet some of the country’s leaders.
Rainsy, who is the co-founder and Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) acting president, arrived in the country along with two other associates.
His arrival was announced by CNRP vice-president Mu Sochua on her Twitter @sochua_mu, about an hour ago.
“@RainsySam safely landed in#Jakarta this morning. Will meet Indonesian MPs.”
Also announcing his arrival was CNRP youth activist Seng Mengbunrong on his Twitter @SengMengbunrong.
“LP @RainsySam, along with two other associates, have arrived in #Jakarta #Indonesia and will meet some of the leaders of the country.”
Yesterday, Rainsy was stopped from boarding a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, believed due to be on instruction from Indonesian authorities.
He took to his Twitter, saying that he had missed his flight to Jakarta.
“I missed my flight from Kuala Lumpur this afternoon but will catch another flight tomorrow morning for Jakarta. Will arrive at Jakarta Soekarno Hatta International Airport at 10:10 am by flight MH711. #SamRainsy.”
On Tuesday, Rainsy and Sochua had an informal meeting with the Malaysian parliamentarians in Parliament.
Both Sochua and Rainsy were invited to Parliament by Permatang Pauh member of parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar, to discuss the way forward in pursuing the best socio-developmental pathways for Malaysia and Cambodia.
Rainsy and his wife Tioulong Saumura, who is CNRP senior leader, flew into Malaysia with French passports on Saturday.
It was reported that all three were denied entry into Thailand following pressure from the Cambodian government.
