Actress Brittany Murphy's half-brother believes she was killed - Page Six

Friday marked the 10th anniversary of the death of actress Brittany Murphy. The star — known for her roles in films such as “Clueless,” “8 Mile” and “Girl, Interrupted” — was pronounced dead Dec. 20, 2009, at the age of 32 under what many have since called questionable circumstances.

The primary cause of her death was listed as pneumonia and drug intoxication, but Murphy’s half-brother, Tony Bertolotti, believes her husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack may have been inadvertently responsible for her passing. Both Monjack — who died just five months later — and Murphy’s mother were in the home when she died.

“If you look at it from a distance, it’s like, here’s this young lady — a fairly healthy girl — she’s home with her supposed husband and mother, and she died,” Bertolotti observed to the Daily Mail. “How absurd is it? It’s only in Hollywood that it’s considered another day at the zoo. No one takes her to a hospital, which is just four miles away.”

He continued, “I spent years looking at this, suppressing my own anger. I think Brittany was taken out. Who killed Brittany? She didn’t die of natural causes.”

Bertolotti — a retired saxophonist and composer — believes his former brother-in-law may have had something to do with Murphy’s death, due to his “six-figure bank and business debt.”

“I don’t know what business decisions they were making at that time, but it [their deaths] sounds business-related to me,” Tony asserted. “I’ve heard all sorts of crap, so what is true? I don’t believe the drugs line that much, I don’t buy it. I’m sure there was experimentation. But Brittany was conservative with that stuff, she was a bright girl.”

Murphy’s brother went on to say he believes someone has profited from her death, and that person may be the culprit.

“You’ve got to look at, who’s collecting the money now? I don’t know. Every time the movie comes on, someone is getting paid. Whoever’s got the money knows the truth.

“There was a group of at least 15 to 30 people around Brittany, and you tell me that no one knows nothing,” he continued. “Are you kidding? If I had the money to properly investigate her death, I’d go around all of them, but they wouldn’t speak to me.”

According to Bertolotti, their father, Angelo Bertolotti, also believed his daughter’s death was due to foul play. Angelo himself died in January 2019.

“My father was up to it like a hound dog, but then [he] got sick and had a stroke. Till his dying day, he was obsessed with finding out what happened. He went up to a bunch of these people, but no one would talk to him. We couldn’t find out anything. What’s it all tell you? The thing is locked down.”
