Hong Kong police have reportedly used tear gas on protesters for the first time since the pro-democracy camp won a landslide victory in district council elections.
The pro-democracy camp won more than 80 percent of the council seats in the vote held last Sunday.
But the Hong Kong government has not indicated that it is ready to concede to protesters' demands, including the introduction of a direct vote to choose the chief executive.
Demonstrators wearing black clothing and masks gathered in a busy district on the Kowloon Peninsula on Saturday night, disrupting traffic and setting fires.
Multiple Hong Kong media outlets report that police were deployed, and they fired at least one tear gas grenade to remove the protesters.
Police in the territory have fired about 10,000 tear gas grenades in the protests since June, but hadn't used them for more than ten days from November 18.
Fears exist that the use of tear gas may prompt people to intensify their protests against the police crackdown.
