College women's hockey: Goal spree lifts UMD over Huskies - Duluth News Tribune

The Bulldogs men scored five-straight goals in a win over North Dakota on Friday night. On Saturday, the UMD women broke open a tie game with four-straight tallies and defeated St. Cloud State 5-2 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

The Bulldogs pulled five points out of the weekend with the Huskies, and they are 12-8-4 overall and 7-6-3 in the WCHA. St. Cloud State is 5-18-4 overall and 1-16-1 in the league.

UMD remained undefeated in its last six games since dropping a pair in Wisconsin on Dec.6-7. The Bulldogs are 4-0-2 in that stretch.

On Saturday, five different Bulldogs scored goals and it was a four-goal string in about 23 minutes of ice time over the first and second periods that turned the game.

Taylor Anderson scored at 8:30 of the first to put UMD on the board, but St. Cloud’s Olivia Cvar countered 1:15 later to tie it.

Lizi Norton put UMD back on top with a goal at 15:18 of the first and Ashton Bell made it a two-goal lead at 1:41 of the second. The Bulldogs weren’t done.

Anna Klein connected at 13:50 of the second and Kailee Skinner made it 5-1 with a goal at 18:36.

Gabbie Hughes had three assists, Maggie Flaherty and Sydney Brodt both had two assists and Bell had two points with the goal and an assist.

Maddie Rooney played two periods and stopped seven shots and Emma Soderberg played the third period and had 10 saves.

The Bulldogs play next at Minnesota on Friday (7:07 p.m. start) and Saturday (4:07 p.m.).
