Online fundraiser created to pay off student lunch debt reaches goal - PennLive

An online fundraiser created to raise enough money to pay off a Cumberland County school district’s student lunch debts has reached its goal.

That’s according to a post attached to a GoFundMe page made Wednesday by one of the women who created the fundraiser.

The goal was to raise $22,000 — the amount owned by students and families in the Carlisle Area School District, according to the page.

“Through social media a movement has been started not only to eliminate this debt but to show the children and young adults of Carlisle that we love them and we support them,” it reads.

On Wednesday, it was announced that $23,536.21 had been raised.

“You are all so amazing,” a post thanking donors reads. “That is a community I am proud to be a part of.”

The fundraiser was started by Kristi Knox, a real estate agent with the Knox Bowermaster Team at Berkshire Hathaway, and Traer Beaudette, co-owner of Feathers in the Nest in Carlisle, who hoped to pay off the debts owed by 572 students.

Regular lunch prices are $3.10 at Carlisle’s elementary and secondary schools.
