A pair of New Jersey teens are facing criminal charges after seriously injuring one of their classmates during the viral TikTok “skull-breaker challenge,” authorities said.
The new social media craze has kids trick one of their classmates to jump in the air, side-by-side, while another kid unsuspectingly sweeps out their legs — sending the sucker crashing to the ground.
Two minors, whose names and ages were not released, were arrested and charged Tuesday with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim over one of the viral videos in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, last month, the Camden County prosecutor said Wednesday.
The 13-year-old boy, who suffered a seizure and a concussion during the Jan. 24 incident, was hospitalized for two days for his injuries, the boy’s father, Marc Shenker, told WHHY.
The boy’s mother, Stacy Shenker, told NBC she had never heard of the game until she was called to the school. Her son was unresponsive when she arrived, and EMS told her he had suffered a seizure.
Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer urged parents to talk with their kids about the dangers of the game.
“While the challenges may seem funny or get views on social media platforms, they can have serious and long-lasting health consequences,” Mayer said.
