SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A protest demanding Justice for George Floyd took place at 1 p.m. in Santa Maria on Sunday.
Community members rallied in support of the Black Lives Matter movement at Santa Maria City Hall.
They protested against police brutality after George Floyd, a black man, died while being restrained on the ground by multiple Minneapolis officers during his arrest.
Showing Up for Racial Justice, Santa Maria said that participants must wear a mask and physically distance during the gathering. They also told people not to bring any weapons.
Protesters marched down Broadway around 2 p.m. Prior to that, they gathered in the city hall courtyard chanting and listening to multiple speakers.
Similar protests are taking place at 1 p.m. in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara on Sunday.
These rallies accompany hundreds that have taken place across the country since Floyd's death on Monday, May 25.
