Volunteers Come Together to Bring Eid al-Fitr Celebrations to Muslim Community - VOCM

With Ramadan coming to an end and Eid al-Fitr just around the corner, a local community activist is doing what he can to ensure the Muslim holiday celebrations continue while adhering to social distancing measures.

Hasan Hai says Eid is a time to celebrate with family, friends and community following a month of sacrifice and fasting during Ramadan.

Eid is a time of socializing and feasting meaning, celebrations this year will look a lot different.

Hai has partnered with NL Eats, Curry Delight and a few other volunteers who want to bridge the gap between distant community members and offer food that follows Muslim dietary restrictions.

Hai will be coordinating food donations that come in, and any monetary donations will go to Curry Delight to produce the large quantities of food.

The food will be collected on Sunday at noon and distributed to the doors of anyone practicing Islam through socially distant methods.

Hai says anyone would like to take part – whether it be receiving or donating – can contact him at Hasan@NLBMC.ca or via twitter.
