American Christian Pulisic has scored in back-to-back games for Chelsea. The 21-year-old opened the scoring against Manchester City on Thursday on an impressive counter attack. Getting the start after his fine performance last weekend against Aston Villa, Pulisic gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the first half with a fantastic solo effort.
There was a mix-up beyond midfield between City's Ilkay Gundogan and Benjamin Mendy, which left the ball unpossessed a good 60 yards from goal. Pulisic scooped it up, beat both of them with speed and finished past Ederson with what was a perfectly tucked away shot.
City goalkeeper Ederson charged to narrow the angle but Pulisic slid the ball around him and into the side of the goal with world-class accuracy. Take a look:
That is just sublime. A little hesitation and burst of speed to get by Mendy was impressive, but that finish against one of the league's best goalkeepers was just perfect. That was always the best spot to try and put the ball, keeping it low and less likely to be saved. That's his best goal in a Chelsea shirt and what that will certainly see him get more minutes in the immediate future.
Manchester City pulled even in the second half, but Chelsea won, 2-1, as Willian scored a penalty kick for the winner. The result saw Liverpool clinch the 2019-20 Premier League title.
