New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A social media post claiming that the Centre will implement a complete lockdown in India starting June 15 is going viral and has left netizens perplexed. However, Vishvas News fact-checked the viral post and found it fake.

The viral post, attributed to a leading news channel, claimed that a complete lockdown will be imposed by the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs with the rail, road and air travel again coming to a halt from June 15.

Checking the veracity of the viral post, Vishvas News found that Zee News never published any such news. In fact, the fake news on lockdown was made viral along with the logo of Zee News.

Moreover, Zee News published a news regarding the viral post, saying that it was an attempt to malign the image of the organisation.

When Vishvas News contacted Chief Editor of Zee News Sudhir Chaudhary, he called it a "fake news", saying that the channel did not run any such news.

Vishvas News also investigated the Facebook account from which the fake post originate and later went viral, and found that the Gayas Ahamad's account is filled with such fake and misleading posts.

The fake news has led to a sharp spike in Google searches on "June 15" in the last couple of days.

The Centre on May 28 announced the three-phased lockdown exit plan, first stage of which is already underway. Shopping malls, religious places, hotels and restaurants - except those falling in containment zones - have been allowed to open across the country.

There have been concerns that a prolonged lockdown was hurting the economy in a big way with many experts having forecast a deep recession for the current quarter and also a severe impact in the second quarter of the current fiscal, thus pulling down the GDP growth figure for the entire year.

Recording over 9,000 cases daily for the last eight days, India is now the fifth country in the world after the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK. Maharashtra alone, with over 92,000 confirmed cases, has ovetook China's tally of COVID-19 cases.

Mumbai's tally itself is bigger than those of South Africa, Netherlands, Sweden, UAE, Singapore, Portugal, Indonesia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Poland, Japan, Austria, Denmark, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Finland and many other countries.
