Kelly Clarkson files for divorce from husband Brandon Blackstock - Yahoo Singapore News

The Voice US star Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock after seven years of marriage.

According to documents obtained by E! News, Kelly filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court earlier this month citing irreconcilable differences, with a date of separation reportedly listed as "TBD".

Digital Spy has reached out to a representative for comment.

Kelly first met Brandon in 2006 but didn't start dating until 2012, after Brandon's divorce. The couple have been married for nearly seven years, having tied the knot in October 2013 at a luxury resort in the Smoky Mountains in Walland, Tennessee.

Kelly and Brandon share two children together – daughter River Rose, who turns 6 on Friday (June 12), and 4-year-old son Remington Alexander – while Brandon also has two children from a previous marriage.

News of the divorce comes just a few weeks after Brandon appeared alongside their children River and Remington, as well as his eldest son Seth, to wish Kelly a happy birthday in an adorable video message on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

"Just now seeing this and I am bawling!" Kelly commented on the clip. "They're all so cute! I've had a bit of a rough week and this just turned it around."

Singer Kelly rose to fame after winning the first season of American Idol back in 2002, but speaking in 2017 Kelly explained that she didn't actually want to win the talent show as it meant starring in a movie.

"I do remember Justin [Guarini] and I having the conversation before, and I was like, 'I don't want to win, I don't want to win', because we found out we had to do a movie," Clarkson recalled.

"He really wanted to do a movie. And I really didn't want to do a movie. I was like, 'It would be really super cool if I got second and you got first, because the winner has to do the movie and the second one doesn't'."
