A fire that burned near the Cahuilla Casino in Anza on Monday, July 13, threatened a mobile home park and charred about 125 acres before crews managed to halt its spread.
The Casino fire was first reported at 3:08 p.m. in the area of Cary Road and Highway 371, downhill from the casino, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department Capt. Fernando Herrera said. Flames traveled north toward the Anza Pines Mobile Home Park, just south of the highway and west of Anza Trail.
“The structure threat has been mitigated,” Herrera said just before 5 p.m. “We dropped flame retardant on both flanks and on the head of the fire already, so a lot of the active fire front is now suppressed. Things are looking pretty good, but there are still a lot of hot spots.”
At least 175 personnel on the ground, four fixed-wing aircraft and two helicopters from from Cal Fire/Riverside worked to extinguish the fire. U.S. Forest Service crews also took part in firefighting efforts.

No mandatory evacuations were required, Herrera said. Cahuilla Casino was not at risk Monday evening, despite the fire’s proximity. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
