San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man who they say was armed with a gun and had fired at several people, injuring one person on Friday morning at a Lucerne Valley mobile home park.
After callers reported hearing shots in the area, deputies arrived at Moss Mobile Manor and RV Park in the 38000 block of Old Woman Springs Road about 9:30 a.m. and found a man firing a gun in the area, said the Sheriff’s Department in a news release.
Deputies began to evacuate residents from their homes. Investigators later learned that the suspect had fired at two individuals at the park before deputies arrived, leaving one person with minor injuries, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The suspect, later identified by the Sheriff’s Department as Joshua Beedie, 38, of Yucaipa, hid among several abandoned cars and trailers at the park, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol and sheriff’s helicopters buzzed overhead while deputies used a PA system, attempting to get the suspect to surrender, authorities said. As the suspect continued to hide, deputies used three armored vehicles to approach the suspect.
While they approached the man, deputies shot the suspect, authorities said. Beedie was transported to a hospital where he later died. The Sheriff’s Department did not say in detail what prompted deputies to shoot the suspect.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
Authorities said they recovered two rifles, one AR-15 and a sawed-off shotgun, next to where the suspect was hiding. They also said Beedie was wanted on an attempted murder and rape warrant related to an investigation by the sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station.
