Heading into the series, the Toronto Raptors were the favorites as they went 53-19 in the regular season, compared to the Celtics’ 48-24 record, and they are the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Celtics are the No. 3 seed.

However, the Celtics came out on fire in Games 1 and 2. They won 112-94 in Game 1. Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart ultimately both scored 21 points in the game while Kemba Walker scored 18, and Brown scored 17.

Game 2 was much closer, though, as the Celtics only won 102-99. Walker made a bucket to make it 102-99 with 41 seconds left, and then Fred VanVleet missed a 3-pointer for the Raptors at the end, leading to the Celtics taking a 2-0 series lead. Tatum scored 34 points for the Celtics in the game while Smart scored 19, Walker scored 17, and Brown scored 16.

Similar to the way Game 2 ended, Game 3 also came down to the final seconds. Boston led by 10 at halftime, but Toronto went on a run and took a 70-68 lead with 2:55 left in the third. However, the Celtics closed out the quarter on a 12-6 run and led 80-76 heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter went back-and-forth, and the Celtics ultimately took a 103-101 lead with less than a second left. However, Anunoby hit a 3-pointer as time expired, and the Raptors won 104-103 to make the series 2-1.

Kyle Lowry led the Raptors with 31 points while VanVleet had 25. Walker led the Celtics with 29 points while Brown had 19.

On the final play of Game 3, Brown is the one who contested Anunoby’s game-winning shot.

“They made a remarkable shot. Still, it’s a f****** disgrace,” Brown said, according to Yahoo Sports. “Terrible. No excuse for it. At all. It was ridiculous.”

That wasn’t all Brown said, though, as he continued to call the end of the game a disgrace, but took sole blame for how it all turned out.

“That was just a f****** disgrace at the end of the game. That was just terrible,” said Brown, according to Yahoo Sports. “No way we should have lost that game. I take responsibility for that. Not just that play but a lot of the plays before.”

Despite the loss, the Celtics are still in a good spot in the series. They are up 2-1 on not just the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference but also the defending NBA champions. The Celtics also have four players averaging 17 points per game or more this series as Tatum is averaging 23.3, Walker is averaging 21.3, Brown is averaging 17.3, and Smart is averaging 17.

“They’re the defending champs,” Brown said, per Yahoo Sports. “We knew they weren’t going to go down without a fight, so we gotta be ready to throw the next punch. That’s it. They responded, they made a remarkable play at the end of the game. The fight continues. Get ready for Game 4.”

Everyone knew heading into this series that it would be competitive. Both of these squads have some remarkable players. However, it’ll now be interesting to see whether the Celtics can bounce back or if the Raptors just got the momentum swing that they needed.
