Marvel’s WandaVision trailer: The MCU gets weird on Disney Plus this year - Polygon

While the theatrical calendar keeps the release of Marvel’s Black Widow in question, the studio’s Disney Plus state is moving full steam ahead. Proof: the first trailer for Wandavision, which premiered during the 2020 Emmys Awards.

WandaVision reunites Wanda Maximoff and Vision, with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles. The show, which Marvel has described as a “mega event series,” is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, so it’s not clear how Vision — who was killed in Infinity War — will be revived, but if Tony Stark and friends can bring back half of all life in the universe, Marvel will surely find a way.

The trailer teases an answer. Opening in a world straight out of a 1950s sitcom (with strong Bewitched vibes), the couple is playing the traditional husband and wife roles to a creepy degree. Is it all in Wanda’s head? We get hints later on that the telekinetic hero is reworking the world around her, so why not revive her dead boyfriend in a newly designed reality based on TV? Before the end of the spot, we see people flying through portals and the feds getting involved. Things are ... erupting. (But hey, we get Scarlet Witch in her original costume.)

The series supposedly sets up a set of universe-bending events that will lead into the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (which will have Scarlet Witch in a co-starring role). The cast also includes MCU vets Kat Dennings (Thor: The Dark World) and Randall Wallace (Ant-Man 2). An adult Monica Rambeau (Mad Men alum Teyonah Parris) will also figure into the mix somehow.

As for the trailer, it’s a hoot, full of bright colors and odd behavior. It’s still anyone’s guess what it’s about, but all signs point to a loose adaptation of the legendary House of M run, with touches of Tom King’s recent hit, Vision.

There’s still no release date for WandaVision, but according to a September announcement from Disney, the series will premiere before the end of 2020.
