Denton police are investigating an assault in a Buc-ee’s parking lot that was captured in a viral Twitter video on Saturday.
Officers were dispatched about 12:40 p.m. to a local hospital and spoke with the victim about the incident, which occurred in the 2800 block of South Interstate 35E, police said.
The victim told officers that while at the Buc-ee’s, he and a friend saw supporters of President Donald Trump. They got into an argument and one of the men punched the victim in the face.
The victim, whose identity was not released, suffered a broken tooth and a wound under his right eyebrow, police said.
A 16-second video of the incident was posted to Twitter around 3:15 p.m. and went viral. The footage shows a man in a red and brown hat and black shirt arguing with a man wearing black glasses, a blue face mask and blue shirt and carrying what appears to be a flag.
Because this was one of many meet-up locations in the DFW area, it is unknown at this time if the suspect is from Denton or surrounding area.

The man in the hat yells, “You want a [expletive] piece?” The man in glasses replies, “No, thank you.”
The first man yells back, “Turn it off!” Next to him, a man in a grey hat and black “Trump 2020” shirt says to the man in the glasses: “You guys shouldn’t even be here, bud.”
The first man then yells “I’ll [expletive] you up!” and punches the man with glasses in the face.
The victim falls to the ground, and the assailant and people with him begin walking away as the video ends.
It’s not clear what the men were arguing about or what led up to the video. The original tweet says that the incident occurred at a rally, but Denton police had not confirmed that information early Saturday evening.
Police Chief Frank Dixon tweeted about the incident and included screenshots of the video.
Dixon said the department is looking for the assailant. He was last seen driving a dark-colored Dodge Ram pickup.
The department asks that anyone with information about the incident, including video footage, call police at 940-349-8181.
