The cliffside villa is the world's first luxury hotel to open inside of a commercial airplane.
If the idea of spending the night on a grounded airplane gives you pause, this luxurious new villa might have you reconsidering.
On a clifftop overlooking Bali's Nyang Nyang beach, an abandoned Boeing 737 airliner is being turned into a luxury private villa, complete with two bedrooms, an infinity pool with Indian Ocean views, and a terrace. According to Business Insider, entrepreneur Felix Demin purchased the retired aircraft, previously belonging to the shuttered Mandala Airlines, and envisioned a new life for it as a two-bedroom villa.
The property, which is called Private Jet Villa by Hanging Gardens, is set to open in March 2023. In fact, it's already available to book on Expedia, costing roughly $7,300 a night for the whole plane. (There's also a helipad on site for those who don't like to travel without their helicopter.)
:This Private Jet Tour Around the World Is a Bucket List Trip
"Externally and structurally, this is a jet aircraft that we have turned into a luxury hotel," Demin told Business Insider. He transported the plane to the top of the beachside cliff in 2021.
This isn't the first time a plane has been repurposed into a luxury, non-airborne experience. There have been a handful of restaurant pop-up concepts in grounded planes, including recently on Singapore Airline's double-decker aircraft, the world's largest passenger plane. In 2017, a permanent airplane restaurant called Lily Airways opened in China.
For people who feel claustrophobic on planes, the Private Jet Villa experience might be a tough sell, but with so many luxurious amenities (and without the turbulence and tiny seats), it seems like it would be easy to forget you're on a plane at all. The former cockpit is now a gorgeous circular tub, after all.
