Although royal women tend to opt for small handbags or clutch bags to attend official engagements, Meghan Markle has been photographed many times wearing designer tote bags. The Duchess of Sussex is not afraid of the maxi accessory taking the centre stage and potentially overshadowing her look.
Celebrity stylist Rochelle White explained that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, often wears functional bags that can easily be combined with any look, from street style to more formal ensembles.
The expert opined that Meghan's go-to maxi bag can be "bland" and understated but it has become the "it bag" due to the accessory being "a reflection of the times".
Meghan attended the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada, back in 2017 donning a brown maxi bag, Everlane's The Day tote.
On another occasion, she was spotted in New York while pregnant with Prince Archie sporting a beige maxi bag from Carolina Herrera, the Matryoshka.

Rochelle commented: "There has been such a change in shopper behaviour and how they view brands and items.
"Having bags that are not heavily branded is a more modest look and can actually be more adaptable to outfits and environments.
"Sometimes it's knowing that you have a luxury item either brand new or second hand, that you know is a piece that is worth something but not screaming it," she told FEMAIL.
The fashion expert added that a lot of luxury bags "with all the whistles and bells can't hold much and these 'everyday' luxury bags are usually more practical for everyday wear and use".
"They are timeless and can last longer seasons." In fact, tote bags are a great investment and perfect to carry all the day-to-day essentials.
Head of womenswear at Matches Fashion, Cassie Smart, explained that XL bags offer many women a very practical daily solution.
She said: “We have seen our customers gravitate towards larger totes and bags over the past year and we grew our buy by 35 percent.
“The tote has moved on from just a practical bag to carry your laptop to work in – many XL Bags, large totes and holdalls feel luxurious and are timeless investment pieces which our customer is engaged with,” she told Harper's Bazaar.

Kate, Princess of Wales, however, stays away from the trend and she is rarely seen carrying a tote or maxi bag.
Instead, the royal always opts for stylish mini bags and clutches from Aspinal of London, Mulberry or L.K. Bennett, some of her favourite brands.
Meghan, on the other hand, tends to choose more high-end brands including Dior or Stella McCartney.
Kate's preferred handbag, which is considered to be more royal-appropriate, was also the late Queen Elizabeth's favourite accessory.
The late Queen was rarely seen without her Launer's mini black handbags, and as Kate takes one step closer to her role as a future monarch, "we can expect to catch sight of some more Queen-like top handled bags inspired by the Queen’s trademark Launers," royal and fashion expert Miranda Holder commented.
The late monarch wore her "iconic" black handbag for years and it is reported she owned more than 200 different colours and styles, some of her favourites being the Royale and Traviata.
Similarly, the Princess of Wales may start wearing brooches "as a finishing touch to her look," Miranda opined.
