The Hotel I have been keen to check out Kaohsiung as a destination in Taiwan and InterContinental Kaohsiung has been on my to-stay list since it is a fairly new two years old IHG hotels property. InterContinental Kaohsiung is located at the New Bay Area along the Zhonghua and Xinguang Road, within a five minutes’ walk to Sanduo Shopping District MRT station. Another merit of the hotel’s location is its proximity to Kaohsiung International Airport and Kaohsiung Main Station as it is located in the middle of both transport hubs.

The hotel’s lobby is not huge, but it feels welcoming at least. My check-in process was pretty seamless, and it is great to hold IHG Diamond Elite status as one of the key benefits is the selection of complimentary breakfast.

The Room There are 253 guest rooms and suites at InterContinental Kaohsiung, and I was upgraded to the Premium Room which boasts a distant harbour view.

The size of the premium room is decent at 46 sqm, and I saw the huge bathroom the moment I entered the room.

With a separate bath tub and walk-in shower, I appreciate that the bathroom comes equipped with Japanese washlet toiletries along with Byredo amenities.

A reliable Dyson hairdryer also sets it apart from other hotels I have stayed in.

I opted for a king size bed for the bedroom which comes with automated window blinds with day and night curtains. There is a coffee table by the window, and it also doubles up as a work desk if there is a need to.

Overall, I think the room is fairly well-designed and equipped with charging points on both sides of the bed, along with good switch control over the lights in the room.

The Facilities Probably the most instagrammable part of the hotel is the indoor pool which has a nice symmetrical curve arch design. There is even an onsen corner for a dip. A word of warning is that swimming cap is required to enter the water. The changing room also comes with sauna and steam room facilities.

Located on the same floor as the pool is the gym which is honestly very small and basic. There is only one bench, one cable machine, a few treadmills and that is about it.

If you have booked a club room, there is also Club InterContinental to check out.
The Restaurants In terms of dining options, there are five dining concepts which include a contemporary lobby lounge Seeds Restaurant; a bistro named BL.T33 which is an abbreviation of bar, lounge, tea, and No.33, Xinguang Rd.; Chinese restaurant Zhan Lu, and Hawker Restaurant which focuses on Southeast Asian specialties; and Wa Ra, which is a Japanese restaurant.

I had breakfast at Seeds Restaurant which offers a decent spread of local Taiwanese dishes like soy milk and noodles, along with International selections.

One merit of the buffet is that each table is assigned table pegs, which you can clip on the live stations which you are interested to try such as the eggs station, and the food will be delivered to your table once ready.

There is also a cold room corner where you can get fruits, cold cuts, juices and salad.

Rants Unfortunately the gym is relatively small for the hotel’s size.
Overall Experience I would recommend staying at this property if you plan to visit Kaohsiung where the hotel’s location is very ideal for me. It is also a fairly new property so you can expect a very good state of the rooms and facilities.
