Artis—Naples is reopening for the 2020- 2021 season, but don’t expect it look like previous seasons.

Due to the pandemic, many of its annual beloved programs and shows will not be offered.

The touring Broadway shows are cancelled. The Dance and Visiting Orchestra series are also cancelled, though the venue has said it hopes to reschedule the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a future season. All previously announced Naples Philharmonic Masterworks and Pops series concerts through Jan. 31 have been cancelled.

In response to what has been an atypical year, with a global pandemic, the venue is offering a much-condensed version of a typical season.

Three concert series will be offered: The Naples Philharmonic Sypert Salon series, the Wang Chamber Music Series, and the Naples Philharmonic Jazz All that Jazz series.

Rather than being held in the Daniels Pavilion, they’ll all be held in the larger Hayes Hall.

For the All That Jazz series, the audience will be seated as usual but socially distanced.

On Oct. 22-25, Artis—Naples will host the Naples International Film Festival, named one of the top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in 2019 by MovieMaker magazine. This year’s festival will be a mixture of in person and virtual events.

The in-person events will take place outside in the Norris Garden: “The Donut King” at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 22 with red carpet at 7 p.m.; Shorts Showcase at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 23; “The Outside Story” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and “Banksy Most Wanted” and wrap, 7:30 p.m. with red carpet at 7 p.m.

The offerings include films on filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, singer Billie Holiday, photorealist painter Richard Estes and the Bauhaus school of architecture.

Artis—Naples has not announced any Lifelong Learning classes, including Elaine Newton’s popular Critic’s Choices lectures in books and films.

A spokesperson said the venue would reassess later in the year and make an announcement in early December about what the remainder of the 2020-2021 season might include.

The venue plans to re-open its Baker Museum on Nov. 1 with timed entries and reduced capacity attendance. In celebration of its 20th anniversary season, “Dreaming Forms: Chihuly Then and Now” will be on exhibit.

It is the third major Chihuly exhibit in the history of the Baker Museum; the first was in November 2000 and the artist himself attended the inaugural festivities.

Other Baker Museum exhibitions include: “Subject Matters: Selections from the Permanent Collection.”

The subject matter includes figures, landscape, the home and abstraction.

“Rodin: Truth Form Life/Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Collections” will exhibit 22 bronze sculptures created by the artist between 1860 and 1910.

The fourth major exhibit at the museum will be “Magritte: Reflections of Another World – Paintings From the Van Parys Family.”

The exhibit is comprised of six paintings, five oils and one gouache, by Rene Magritte, painted between 1932 and 1956. According to the venue, they have never previously been shown in North America and none have been exhibited publicly in more than 48 years.
