Things to Do Besides Skiing

The town offers a variety of other activities throughout the year that make it a destination for discerning high-net-worth individuals who want to immerse themselves in sports and culture.

“There is always something going on here: music events, open-air cinema and sports events of all sorts,” Jira said. “On a rainy day, people love to stroll through the town and shop, dine or meet friends—and you become one very, very fast.”

Some of the more famous restaurants include Rosi’s Sonnbergstuben, which is furnished in traditional Tyrolean style and serves regional cuisine; Berggasthof Hagstein, which serves traditional cuisine prepared with products from its own farm; Zuma, a sushi restaurant that describes its menu as “authentic but not traditional”; Berggericht, which offers Alpine fine dining; and Lois Stern Essen & Trinken, whose menu is a fusion of Asian and European flavors.

Other popular spots include the bars Club Take-Five, Fünferl and the Londoner.

The town’s luxury boutiques include the brands Louis Vuitton, Montclair and Rolex. Shoppers also head to Kitz Galleria, a small picturesque luxury mall with 13 shops, a hairdresser and two restaurants.

Kitzbühel Country Club, which is 4 kilometers from the center of town, is a private members-only club with a restaurant, hiking trails and many other amenities.

There are four championship golf courses in the town: the 18-hole Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith; Eichenheim Kitzbühel-Aurach, which includes the Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel; the 9-hole Red Bull Golf at the Rasmushof; and the 9-hole Golf Club Kitzbühel.

“The town also has a warm mountain lake, hiking trails, downhill-bike trails and ramps for paragliders,” Jira said.
Hofer added that for swimming, fishing and water sports, residents head to nearby lakes like the Schwarzsee and rivers such as Kitzbüheler Ache.

Casino Kitzbühel has a variety of games, including slot machines, American roulette and Black Jack, for those who like to roll the dice.

And Kitzbüheler Stadtgärtner, the town’s park, is another popular attraction.

The first Sunday of August, Kitzbühel’s music association, the Stadtmusik Kitzbühel, hosts its annual traditional “Jahrmarkt,” a summer market/festival that features live music and local vendors.

Museum Kitzbühel, which is dedicated to the town’s history, features artwork and exhibits on skiing and winter sports.
From their centuries-old churches to restored traditional houses, the villages surrounding Kitzbühel are picturesque and illustrative of the area’s rich history.

Those who desire additional cultural options visit Salzburg, which is about a 50-minute drive away.
